 Marcus Tregoning is living proof that time spent on reconnaissance is seldom wasted. He spent the longest apprenticeship in racing, all of 14 years, working for Dick Hern, a legendary figure who trained sixteen Classic winners.
When Marcus started on his own in 1997 it was immediately apparent that the lessons learned from the old master had not been wasted. The future of Kingwood House Stables was in good hands.
Young, energetic and refreshingly open Marcus set off with fifty horses and a bucketful of enthusiasm. Soon the winners were flowing. In no time at all he was training over 100 horses. |

Having worked for Major Hern since the early 1960's and graduated to Assistant Head Lad twenty years later. Vic was the obvious candidate to fulfill that role for Marcus. Vic has shared responsibility with John (2nd Head Lad) for the stable staff team and horses in the yard. 
John continues as a valuable rider as well as aiding Vic in overseeing the daily activities within the yard. John does the majority of the yearling work at this time of year.
Roy is responsible for accompanying horses to race meetings, as well as supervising the lad or lass who travels with their horse to the races. 
David has a vast knowledge of equine nutrition, therefore he is in charge of mixing each horse's feed individually, as every horse is fed to its own specific needs. 
Martin, a leading flat jockey, partnered our 2006 Derby hero Sir Percy to victory at Epsom in 2006. 
Richard Hills is a leading flat jockey and first Jockey to Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum. His first Group 1 winner was Ashal in the Ascot Gold Cup in 1990. He became first jockey for Sheikh Hamdam Al Maktoum in 1997 following the retirement of Willie Carson. 
Pat Dobbs is a leading flat Jockey and is often booked to ride our horses. 
Kat is a 7lb claimer who rode her first winner on SLIP at Salisbury in June 2008. 
Tadgh is second jockey to Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.
Vicky works in the office full time and is responsible for all office and admin work.
Louise assists Vicky in the office and works part time with the team at Kingwood House Stables.
O'Gorman Slater Main & Partners - Nicole is mainly involved in horseracing work and holds certificates in both anesthesia and internal medicine. 
Sarah lives in France, but travels over once a week especially to work on our horses. Marcus swears that SIR PERCY would not have got to the 2006 Derby if it hadn't been for Sarah's hard work on him.
